HAPPY NEW YEAR! Wow! I made another one. 1929 to 2022. As a child I would have considered anyone my age as a true ancient. Truth be told, there were very few persons of such extreme vintage around in the old days. Today it is different. In my own small church I know three people […]
The nature of matter and our senses is such that we can detect only a millionth part of the wonders around us. Can we see the wind? Can our ears detect the sound of a dog whistle? Our vision and hearing is confined to that narrow part of the electromagnetic spectrum that we identify as […]
Many years ago I wrote a play entitled “The Lord Is Come!” It was based on Leo Tolstoy’s short story, “Where Love Is, God Is,’ and we performed it at our church. It was an affirmation of the presence of God among us. Two days ago we celebrated the birth of Lord Jesus. Our Creator […]

I have always loved to sing. I never had lessons, do not read music, and I have only average talent. Nevertheless, I really enjoy singing. In the fourth grade I was picked to sing a solo in or school’s Christmas pageant. I belted it out with considerable gusto. I spent the winter of 1939-40 in […]
We are gifted with amazing sounds during the Christmas season. It fills my soul with joy to hear magnificent choruses and carols such as Adeste Fideles, Joy to the World, Silent Night, and other worshipful tributes to the birth of our Savior. We are truly blessed by this wonderful music. Last evening I was particularly […]
Faith vs reason is the third major area of disagreement between progressives and conservatives. This is a generalization, of course, but progressives usually have a negative view of organized religion and are especially hostile towards Christian conservatives. They are offended by the Bible’s stultifying pronouncements on such subjects as sexual morality and family relationships. They […]
