Blowing Rock

Early on a morning in early September 1951 my sweetheart and I stood on this beautiful promontory and bade each other a fond farewell.  Shortly thereafter we descended into the valley, and Ann registered as a student at Appalachian State College in Boone, North Carolina.

I was a college student at Chapel Hill, and I had no automobile.  I soon discovered that making my way from Chapel Hill to Boone was extremely difficult, and I saw Ann only once over the next three months.  I was absolutely miserable, and I had great difficulty concentrating on my studies.  Something had to give.  The upshot was, in December we got married.
