More than two weeks ago I predicted that the Taliban would take over Afghanistan when Western military forces withdrew.  I must admit that I did not anticipate the rapidity of the takeover.

Late in his term, President Trump announced his intention to remove American military forces from Afghanistan.  It was, however, to be a conditions-based, orderly withdrawal.  The pace of withdrawal was to be dependent upon the Taliban living up to certain promises it had made concerning protecting the civilian population and allowing a safe, gradual removal or our and our allies’ military assets.

Biden evidently abandoned the Trump withdrawal plan.  The result has been absolute chaos, and it is a very sad spectacle we see being played out before us.

Pray for the people of Afghanistan, the lives of those Afghans who supported us, and the safety of Americans and other Westerners still trapped in country.
