Several years ago, Colin Kaepernick, a player on the San Francisco football team, began a protest against racial injustice in America by kneeling during the playing of the national anthem. He became a counter-culture hero. Now, several years later, the kneeling protest has been taken up by other players in the National Football League, the NBA, and major league baseball.
For my part, rather than witness disrespect for the American national anthem, I would prefer that stadiums and basketball arenas no longer play the Star Spangled banner. On the other hand, if they do play it, and the players kneel, I will no longer watch the games.
I have never understood the object of the protesters. Yes, American is not perfect, but it continues to work for justice for all citizens, and it has made amazing progress in that area over many years. The fight for equity goes on! What would satisfy the kneelers? I doubt that they can identify any specific action or actions that would satisfy them, so I suppose it means they will be kneeling forever.
We have a wonderful nation. Let us honor it and thank God for it.
From America the Beautiful:
America! America!
God mend thine ev’ry flaw,
Confirm thy soul in self-control,
Thy liberty in law.
America! America!
God shed His grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!
And from the Star-Spangled Banner:
O say can you see, by the dawn’s early light,
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight’s last gleaming,
O say does that star-spangled banner yet wav
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
God bless America!
I appreciate your point, Joe. I was simply stating that I prefer the anthem not be played rather than played only to be disrespected. Either way is an offense, and it means that I’ll probably give up on the NFL, NBA, and MLB.

I have to disagree with you on this one. To stop playing the National Anthem would be a huge win for CK and the others that HATE this country. The NFL, NBA and others sports figures are employees, nothing more, Overpaid, over indulged, spoiled and pampered but still employees. As such they shouldn’t be allowed to act out in public any more than an employee or McDonald’s, Pizza Hut or any other corporation. If they can’t behave in a reasonable, civilized and respectful manner then they should be fired, end of story. No employee of any company should be allowed to act out because of an event of their own personal choosing and in a manner of their choosing. If they were allowed, you can imagine the chaos that would ensue and the loss of business that it would cause. The fact that NASCAR, the NFL and the NBA and others are now pandering to them is completely unacceptable to me and I fully intend to boycott those organizations just like I do CNN and some of our non-news organizations.
