Why does Trump arouse such an intense degree of hatred among his political opponents? In prior years, though I may have disagreed with their politics, I considered most of these present-day Trump haters to be honorable persons. There were exceptions, of course. A few of them were nothing more than corrupt politicians who deceived their supporters while gorging themselves at the public trough. Their fear and hatred of Trump is understandable. But why did most of the Democrats and some Republicans whom I previously considered reasonably honest and moderate politicians choose to treat Trump as if he were the devil incarnate? Their hatred caused many of them to remove all stops in their attempt to defeat and even destroy him.
Trump is a very complex person. He can exhibit charisma and charm, but at times he is rude, crude, and plainly obnoxious. He frequently projects an arrogant and boastful image. He also engages in vicious ad-hominem attacks against those who oppose or offend him, and he rarely displays magnanimity. On the other hand, he can be kind and generous to his friends and others in need of his largesse, and he has a grand vision for America based on his own “Chevrolet and apple-pie image” of the land he loves.
Trump is careless in his use of the English language, and his statements are often subject to various interpretations. Based on this, his opponents often charge him with racist remarks and with issuing threats against our democratic institutions. But a careful and honest examination of his words and actions show these charges to be without merit. Trump is a patriot, and he loves America and its institutions. Nevertheless, Trump’s enemies in the media will never allow false charges to die.
But why Trump derangement on the part of so many honorable Democrats? Most of them share Trump’s vision of a healthy, peaceful and prosperous America, filled with economic opportunities for all our diverse citizenry. There are differences as to how we can achieve this vision, but these differences could be resolved. Everyone should forget personalities and consider the common good. Why not cooperate in seeking solutions?
Instead, the Democrats march lock-step in their opposition to anything that the Trump administration proposes.
Why?
