The race  between MAGA Republicans and Democrat progressives is on.  Who will win?

Trump has transformed the Republican Party.  Most Republicans appear to support his bold plan to transform America.  He hopes to revive American industries and create an economic golden age.  He plans to achieve this by the application of tariffs, deregulation, and lower taxation rates accompanied by  massive domestic and foreign investments. While supporting Trump’s economic plan, most MAGA Republicans are also fervent America firsters and give at least lip-service to traditional social values.  

The Democrat Party has also changed.  The party’s only unifying theme is hatred and distrust of Donald Trump.   As for policy, young party leaders have rejected the Democrat Party establishment and taken a hard swing toward the left.  Most of them advocate big-government socialism financed by high taxes on the wealthy.  They also tend to favor a globalist economy and reject traditional mores, especially with respect to sex and gender.

2026 is likely to be the most critical year.  Democrats are already placing stumbling blocks in front of every Republican initiative, and they obviously hope to completely disrupt Trump’s grandiose plans.  If successful, they may gain a majority in the House (and perhaps the Senate) in the 2026 elections.  This would be devastating for Trump since the Democrats would be able to parry his every move and probably recapture the Presidency in 2028.    

Contrariwise, Trump believes that his 2025 actions (executive, legislative, and diplomatic) have already assured an economic boom during the first half of 2026.   He appears confident that this boom,  which he describes as the beginning of America’s golden age, will sweep Republicans to victory in November 2026 and beyond.

It’s a race.  Will Trump’s policies spur America’s economy to the extent and at the speed that he envisions, or will the Democrats manage to slow him down and bring his plans to naught.

For the nation’s sake,  I pray that Trump is right and the Republicans win the race.   

I anxiously await the outcome.
