Intervene

President Trump is currently on trial in New York City on ridiculous charges that are so convoluted that no one can explain them.  Even eminent legal scholars say that no chargeable crime has been committed.  During the trial, Trump has been handicapped with a severe gag order, whereas his accusers are free to attack him.

Prior to this trial, in another New York court Trump was charged and convicted of bookkeeping fraud in his real estate dealings.  No one suffered any financial loss.  Nevertheless, Trump was fined almost a half-billion dollars.  While this conviction is being appealed his bail was set at more than 100 million.

Trump is awaiting trials in two other cases, both of dubious merit and politically motivated.

It is clear that Trump’s Constitutional rights are being violated.  The 8th Amendment protects any citizen against excessive bail and excessive fines.  The 14th Amendment guarantees every citizen equal protection under the law.  Trump should have Constitutional relief under both amendments.  Most conspicuously, Trump is being denied equal protection.  In the long history of our republic, I doubt that any other person has been singled out for special prosecutions in the way Trump has.

Why can’t the United States Supreme Court intervene immediately?  Constitutional violations are apparent, and to await post-conviction appeals risks irreparable harm.  After all, this man is a leading candidate for the Presidency,

Precedent be damned!  The Supreme Court should act right now!.
