Thank You, Lord

I realize that I have been a very fortunate person, blessed in so many ways over the course of a very long life.

I was born into a loving family and showered with affection from infancy.  My father, mother, brother and sisters were exemplars of Christian living.

I never experienced privation.

While still a teen I met the love of my life, and after a three-year courtship we were happily married for more than 63 years.  I treasure her memory.

My Wife

In 1952 I went off to war, but, as God’s providence would have it, the enemy stopped fighting as I was on my way to the front.

I returned home to my loving wife, and soon there were four of us.

The Four of Us

Over the next half-century our family continued to grow and flourish.

Our Five Wonderful, Loving Sons

My family and I experienced the vicissitudes and storms of life as well as the joys of love and accomplishment.  Trouble and sorrows are inevitable, but I and my loved ones were truly blessed.  The good days far outnumbered the bad ones.

I am a sinful man, and I was keenly aware of my many shortcomings; nevertheless, throughout all my years I was conscious of God’s ever-present care, and I praised him during times of darkness as well as while basking in the sunshine.

Thank you, Lord!
