Cottages at Duck
Some years ago my family was planning to be with my wife and me for Christmas at our Maryland home. The question was, where would they all stay? We had a comfortable four-bedroom house, but with five sons, three daughters-in-law, five grandchildren, and the two of us there simply wasn’t enough room to accommodate everyone under one roof.
Suddenly, I had an inspiration. Why not rent a large beach cottage and spend Christmas at oceanside? I contacted a Nags Head realtor, and we made arrangements to spend Christmas week in a cottage located in Duck on the Outer Banks. It was a great decision. The beach cottage was magnificent, a full six or seven bedrooms and beautifully furnished. It was unusually cold that December, but inside we were as snug as bugs in a rug. We had a wonderful Christmas together.
Despite the bitter weather, we had some nice strolls on the beach, and immediately across the street from our cottage was a heated indoor pool that was open to everyone. The ocean was about a hundred yards to our east, and Currituck Sound was less than a quarter mile to our west. It is a beautiful area. Also, there are some interesting shops in the town of Duck, and I remember dining at a very nice restaurant.
Adding to the joy of the occasion were the great off-season rates. The rental was very reasonable. I suggest you try it sometime.
