Cancel culture is a modern form of ostracism in which someone is thrust out of social or professional circles – either on social media, in interpersonal relationships, or both. Those who are subject to this ostracism are said to be “canceled.” Cancel culture can also be used against organizations or ideas that someone wishes to suppress.
It is a dangerous and powerful force, and it is made much more so by influence of social networks such as Facebook and Twitter.
Today a form of cancel culture is being used against former and present supporters of President Trump as well as many evangelical Christians, conservative Catholics, and others who might be out of step with what may be termed the current “politically correct” view of things.
It is a sad day when Americans fear to express their political and social opinions.
I urge you to fight this tyranny of thought. Search for truth, and when believe that you have found it, proclaim it to all the land. You may discover that some of your friends have found a different truth, but you should then reason with them in a spirit of love. Seeking together, we may approach an even greater verity.
