The Trump administration certainly knows how to keep us on edge. They are trying to manage a large number of bouncing balls. Is Trump a master juggler? Time will tell.
The Venezuelan situation remains unresolved. The dictator is gone, but his coercive infrastructure remains. Can we put sufficient pressure on the remnants of the Maduro government to establish stability in that state and root out internal and foreign troublemakers?
Iran trembles on the edge of revolution, and Trump promises to protect the Iranian people from their murderous overlords. How can we do that without becoming heavily military involved in that nation?
Deprived of Venezuelan support, Cuba is on the verge of economic collapse. Our government hopes for a change in Cuban government followed by a restoration of normal relations between the United States and Cuba. That nation’s rebirth and economic recovery is our goal.
Trump continues to insist on acquiring Greenland for military/strategic reasons. Can he do this without alienating NATO? Why not attempt another approach?
In the meantime, Trump seeks a final resolution of the Hamas probem in Gaza. It appears that slow but steady progress is being made in this area.
Trump continues to push for peace between Russia and the Ukraine, but agreement between the warring parties does not appear close at hand. Let’s continue to pray for resolution.
Domestically, the Trump administration is under immense pressure from those who oppose its tactics in rooting out immigrants who flooded our nation during the Biden Administration. The administration emphasizes its success in removing criminals. Contrariwise, organized opposition groups defend undocumented immigrants as if they had all the rights and privileges of American citizenship. They also attack ICE as being gestapo-like and indiscriminate. The disagreement is now errupting in the streets of some cities.
Also on the domestic front, Trump is fighting to reduce the cost of living. One tactic would be to lower interest rates, which would reduce home mortgage rates and reduce the cost of servicing the national debt. Trump’s unrelenting push on this issue has caused bitter disagreement between him and the chairman of the Federal Reserve.
As usual, Trump continues to employ soft words and charm in dealing with both foreign and domestic opponents. Perhaps it is all part of “The art of a deal.” Not pretty, but possibly effective.
Meanwhile, many balls are still up. I pray that all can be brought safely back to ground.
