The Wisdom of Ben Carson

Yesterday on You Tube I watched a fascinating exchange between Ben Carson and a Democrat lawmaker concerning the LGBT community and the question of equal access.  I believe this exchange may have taken place while Carson was still Secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development under President Donald Trump.

The Democrat lawmaker was pushing hard for absolutely no discrimination against transgenders as regards access to homeless shelters, etc.  To him, it was a simple case of basic rights.  Carson pointed out that the situation was a bit more complicated than the Congressman indicated.  Many shelters have been established to meet the specific needs of women, numbers of whom are seeking to escape abusive husbands or boyfriends.  These women are frightened when biological males, claiming to be women, enter their places of refuge.

In Carson’s view, these women’s right to privacy and protection counterbalances the supposed transgender’s right of access.

It’s a variation on the old argument about biological males, claiming to be transgender, accessing women’s restrooms and showers. I feel certain that Carson would opt to protect women’s right to privacy above the right of transgenders to invade their space.

I believe Carson is correct.  What about you?
