When I did my post on broken families I ventured into a sensitive area. My post was primarily concerned with children to parent and sibling to sibling relationships – not so much with husbands and wives. Some readers took it otherwise.
When Jesus was asked about marriage and divorce he essentially answered that marriage is forever; but he also conceded that we live in an imperfect, sinful world, and therefore, under Mosaic law, divorce was allowed under certain conditions.
There are times when divorce is the best choice – indeed the only choice. I have observed situations in which continuation of a marriage would result in the destruction of both husband and wife. In those circumstances, separation is necessary, and one prays that it might be achieved with the least possible damage to either party or to any children.
