Federalese

A new language has developed in Federal agencies.  This new language has emerged over the course of many years.  It bears some resemblance to English, but the similarities between English and Federalese appear to be slowly fading.

The following bit of Federalese was extracted from a bulletin issued by my old agency some years ago.  I believe it to be illustrative.

“Among those of you being so notified (of a change in station), undoubtedly there are some who will want to undertake a related relocation of residence on the basis that such a move should be considered to be primarily incident to that expected change of station.”

English translation, “Some of those being relocated will wish to move closer to their new place of work.”
