Thus far President Trump has held seven public cabinet meetings, all open to the media. In each of these meetings Trump has gone around the circle and allowed each cabinet member to report on activities in his or her department. As the meeting ends, there is usually time for questions from reporters.
Trump opponents make fun of these meetings, frequently remarking on the obsequious behavior of attendees. Cabinet members often preface their reports by heaping praise on their brilliant commander in chief. Trump appears to lap it up.
I love these meetings. I have lived a long time and observed Presidents from FDR to Trump. This is the first time I’ve had the opportunity to observe Federal department heads and learn something about them and their responsibilities. I’m impressed.
Trump has assembled a brilliant cast of executive assistants. Most of these men and women proved themselves in other fields before entering government service. Each of them appears to be extremely capable. Among this gathering of giants, I think Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Vice President J.D. Vance, and Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard have been especially outstanding.
The Republican Party is fortunate to have a plethora of capable individuals ready to succeed President Trump in 2029.
