Some time ago I published a series of articles about the series of wars, beginning with the Franco-Prussian war of 1870, that dealt a near death blow to Western civilization. Europe has never fully recovered, and all us in the West continue to experience its unfortunate aftereffects.
Over the next few weeks I intend to publish slightly revised accounts of those wars that wrought such havoc on civilization. Each will appear under the label INFERNO, Parts 1-5.
I urge you to read them as cautionary stories about how sometimes things go so terribly wrong; or, as the Scots poet Robert Burns wrote, “The best laid schemes o’ Mice an’ Men gang aft agley.”
Be warned to unfold the banners of war with great trepidation. There are always unintended consequences, and usually they are not good. Of course, at times there is no other choice. If so, may God uphold the right.
