Wisdom and Love

Over the centuries people have searched for purpose in life. How was the universe created? Who or what is the source of our existence? Is there a God?

All of us have difficulties when we try to conceptualize God.   How can we envision Him?  How can we come to know Him?  There are many logical proofs of the reality of God, but in the final analysis, proof of His existence is not demonstrable in the scientific sense.  We cannot put God into a laboratory; and, even if we could, God is far too great for us to wrap our feeble intellects around Him. He is infinite.  He is the creator of the universe.  He has no beginning; He has no ending.  He is, He was, He always will be.  How can mere man, a created being living in a finite world, conceive of the majesty and grandeur of God? God is above time and space and matter and everything else that we use to anchor our limited understanding of reality.

Scientific minds seek to understand it all with no reference to God; but the more they learn, the more we realize how little we truly know. String theory is one such attempt at a scientific explanation.  According to this theory, the particles that propagate space and make up our physical universe are made up of infinitesimally small one-dimensional strings that can vibrate in different ways, and the mass, charge, and other properties of a particle are determined by the vibrational state of the strings. On a macro scale. A vibrating string produces a sound with a constant frequency, and if the length or tension of the string is correctly adjusted the sound produced is a musical note.

One scientist described it this way.

“Everything—and I mean everything—is just a consequence of many infinitely-large fields vibrating. The entire universe is made of fields playing a vast, subatomic symphony. Physicists are trying to understand the melody.”

The Apostle John wrote.  “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.”

I picture this Word as the voice of God being sung as a beautiful celestial melody which is propagated through time and space to create the world we know.

If you wish to find meaning in this world, I suggest that you search the scriptures. As you do so, two truths stand out above all others.

First: The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom.

Second: God commands us to love Him and love one another.
