The Democratic Party is bereft of competent and intellectually honest leadership. How else do we explain their refusal to cooperate with Republicans in the effort to save the United States from an economic disaster. We are 37 trillion dollars in debt. At present, we are adding another 2 trillion to that debt every year, and half of that amount is the interest we are paying on our current debt. On our current trajectory, at some future point our entire revenue stream would be required to service our debt. We will be in a state of financial collapse long before that happens.

Surely the Democrats are capable of simple arithmetic. It’s inconceivable that they fail to realize the truth. The federal budget must be balanced. This can only be achieved by increasing revenues and cutting expenditures. Trump seeks to increase revenues by expanding the economy and imposing tariffs. At the same time, he attempts to reduce expenditures by shrinking the swollen federal bureaucracy, eliminating unnecessary or duplicative programs, and attacking waste and fraud. The Democrats concentrate on revenues and wish to impose massive taxes on high income earners. They appear to have little or no interest in reducing expenditures.

The budget cannot be balanced on the backs of millionaires and billionaires. Also, an attack on high income earners would be an attack on American job creators.

If Democrats are wise, they will work with Republicans on this vital issue. I’m certain they could contribute toward a objective approach to fiscal reform. Instead, they choose to resist every effort to reform the bureaucracy, eliminate waste, and cut overall expenditures.

Please, Democrats, put patriotism above party!
