The Beast

Beast is the monniker assigned to the Presidential limousine. President Trump proudly rode it around the track at the Daytona 500 to the cheers of NASCAR fans.

Many people see Trump himself as a beast. He is charging into the bureaucracy in the way a ferocious wolf might tear into a herd of frightened sheep. Many federal workers are terrified. Others are angry and ready to fight back.

Any honest observer knows that the federal work force should be trimmed. Perhaps one-third of the workers could be cut with little or no effect on the government’s ability to deliver vital services. The bureaucracy is swollen, inefficient, wasteful and duplicative. Yet there are many good persons in government service, and their morale is being shaken. Let us hope that our most valuable public servants will not be lost in the carnage. Pray that the Beast will show some discrimination.
