Charlestown

I have not published an article since December 10. I have no real excuse.

I travelled south to spend Christmas with my son Harold and daughter-in-law Jeannine, granddaughter Irene, her husband McLevi, great grandchildren Skyler and Lili, grandson James, and granddaughter Kira. It was a wonderful time for me. The Christmas eve service at Harold and Jeannine’s church was a highlight along with the sheer joy of being with family.

Returning to Maryland, I resumed the process of settling in to my new quarters at Charlestown Retirement Village. I’m still working on it.

I recently descibed Charlestown to a friend as being much like a cruise ship on land. There are about 2,000 passengers (residents) and a very large staff to take care of almost every need. There are five restaurants and cafes to choose from and a vast array of activities available to anyone interested. These activities include things like card clubs, pickelball, cornhole competitions, bible study, historical and genealogical clubs, musical performances, drama, travel, etc. etc. The only thing missing is the ocean and new ports of call. It is a well run place, and I believe I will be very happy here. I hope to make more and more friends among the residents in the coming months.
