Useful Idiots

This morning, June 16, I watched a replay of an October 2020 Joe Scarborough program.  The New York Post article on the Hunter laptop had just come out, and Scarborough was blasting the story as Russian disinformation.  Scarborough wasn’t alone.  Other mainstream media commentators also believed the laptop to be a possible Russian plant, and many refused to even cover the story. But Scarborough was virulent and abusive in his coverage. He implied that Rudy Guliani was a willing Russian agent, and anyone who went along with this obvious hoax could be classified as a useful idiot for the Russians.

The sad truth of the matter is that the FBI had the laptop in its possession since December 2019, and they knew it was no fake.  It seems certain that Christopher Wray, FBI Chief, and Bill Barr, Attorney General, were aware of this fact.  Unfortunately for the country, they remained silent. Perhaps most of the intelligence professionals who signed a letter stating that the laptop business had the appearance of a Russian disinformation operation realized that the laptop might be genuine.  It would appear that defeating Donald Trump was more important to them than an honest appraisal.

I cannot blame Scarborough for being wrong in 2020.  Many people were. The problem is that he will never admit his mistake.  He will not apologize to those American patriots whose honesty and intelligence he falsely impugned.  His hatred of Trump continues to cloud his good judgement, and he has become nothing more than a useful idiot for the Biden administration.
