In one of my early entries on this blog I wrote an essay entitled “Without Excuse.” It was based on a passage in Apostle Paul’s first letter to the Romans in which he declared “For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse. (Romans 1: 20-21)
Many modern writers, both secular and Christian, have declared the death of Christendom, that long lasting era in which Judeo-Christian ethics and philosophy dominated Western thought. But even during its period of greatest ascendancy, many secular leaders gave only lip-service to the teachings of Christ. Today, few even bother with lip-service. In the minds of many, scientific materialism has struck Christendom a mortal blow.
But let’s not compose our funeral dirges so quickly. The faith of our fathers is not yet moribund. Indeed, I see signs of revival and renewal.
I urge each of you to study the recent works of Christian laymen such as Stephen Meyer, Lee Strobel, J. Warner Wallace and others. They are applying the axe of reason to the roots of macro-evolutionary theory and to a world view devoid of a belief in God. They are revealing truths of God’s creation.
At the same time, men and women everywhere are beginning to realize the bleakness of a life lived without the redeeming presence of our loving Savior, Jesus Christ. The lives of the faithful are a constant reminder of the power of faith to sustain us in periods of darkness.
Look for truth, my friends. Jesus lived, died, and rose again that we might forever live with Him.
That truth shall set you free.
