Hitler and Mussolini Reborn

Many commentators in the leftist media seem to delight in labeling Trump as a new Hitler. It has become a repetitious refrain in their newscasts. But what is the evidence for this charge? Is Trump truly Hitler-like?

I grew up in the 1930s. I saw Hitler in newsreels. I heard him on shortwave radio. I do not see any resemblance between Hitler and Trump. Hitler was a militarist with visions of world power. He was rabidly anti-semitic.

Trump vision is for a revitalized American economy. He is opposed to foreign military entanglements. He does not hate the Jews.

The only similarity between the two men is their abundant energy and their ability to stir crowds of followers.

I will admit that when Trump first became a political contender in 2015-6 I saw in him shades of Mussolini. But it was Trump’s mannerisms, not what he said or believed.

There are things about Trump’s personality I do not like. His major defect appears to be a serious deficit of magnanimity. Nevertheless, I find that I usually align with his vision for America, and I am pleased to be on his side in the fight against those anti-Christian zealots who are attempting to destroy the America I love.

Perhaps the most serious charge against Trump is that he refused to accept the outcome of the 2020 election and attempted to hold on to power. This refusal inspired the assault on the Capitol by some of his followers, aided and abetted by agent-provocateurs.

Yes, it is true that Trump believed he had been cheated out of victory. I believe he was correct, and I could provide plentiful evidence to support that contention. Trump tried everything he could to halt the confirmation process and prove his victory, but he finally accepted the inevitable. At no time was there any chance of insurrection.

Trump is no threat to democracy. Instead, he might well become its savior.

Certainly, he is no Hitler.
