One of my sons and I recently exchanged emails regarding Trump. He was particularly disturbed by recent accusations by General John Kelly, former chief of staff to PresidentTrump, saying that Trump was guilty of disparaging men and women who had served our nation in war, avoided being photographed with wounded veterans because of image concerns, only pretended to be pro-life, etc. My son fears the Democrat’s agenda, and will vote for Trump if there is no other choice, but he is extremely disappointed that both major parties are putting forward such miserable candidates.
I too am disturbed by General Kelly’s statements about his former boss. I believe Trump has a seriously flawed character, but I doubt that Kelly’s observations are entirely accurate. At least I hope they aren’t. Please note that Kelly appeared with Trump bashing commentator Jake Tapper on CNN, certainly not the most reliable source for news. I also know that story about Trump’s refusal to visit American graves in France has been contradicted by people who were with him in Europe at that time, and some of the other anti-Trump tales are also suspect. Kelly and Trump developed an antipathy toward each other early on, and we know that Trump is prone to throw vicious barbs toward anyone who opposes or criticises him. I would like to get input on these stories from other insiders.
I have high respect for Mike Huckabee and his daughter Sarah. They know the former President well. They are committed Christians and firm Trump supporters. Those facts makes me believe Trump isn’t as bad as his detractors would make us believe. I also look at Trump’s sons and daughters. They seem to be solid, upstanding citizens, and they fervently support their father. Mark that as another credit to his basic worth.
I join my son in wishing that we had a better slate of Presidential candidates to choose from. At one time my favorite Republican among potential candidates was Marco Rubio, but he has been out of the limelight for some time and has no chance of being nominated.
One last thought. I absolutely detest present Democratic Party leadership. I think they are hell-bent on destroying the America I love. It is essential that we defeat them in 2024. Trump may have some terrible faults, but who truly knows a person’s heart. I can only judge someone by their actions, and I was very pleased by his policies during his first three years in office. I would like to see him do a repeat. Perhaps another Republican would be more likely to win the general election, but none of them has Trump’s level of popularity within the Republican Party, and Trump is not going to step aside. He is our likely candidate.
In their rage to destroy Trump and his followers, the Democrats have gone berserk. They are wrecking our system of justice. Think of some of the outlandish sentences imposed on J6 defendants. Consider how the DOJ has gone after Christians praying in front of abortion clinics. And what about their legal assault on Trump himself. Some of the charges are ridiculous and terribly unfair.
The more these Democrats violate my sense of justice in their pursuit of Trump, the more I am eager to vote for him..
