On August 11 Attorney General Garland threw down a gauntlet in the face of Congress by appointing David Weiss as special counsel to investigate Joseph Biden.. The sheer audacity of it astounds me. Does he believe that this bold move will shock and blind us to the point we will become oblivious to the evil machinations of the Biden administration.
The choice of Weiss violates every rule and precedent for such appointments. A special counsel is supposed to be someone from outside the Department of Justice with a fresh point of view as regards the matters under investigation. Weiss is from inside the department, intimately acquainted with the Biden family, and has been investigating Hunter Biden for years.
The appointment of Weiss appears calculated to forstall the House of Representatives’ own investigations of the Biden family. The DOJ can refuse to cooperate with House committees on the basis that such action might interfere with the Weiss inquiry.
Fortunately, the House has another avenue open. It can initiate a formal impeachment inquiry regarding President Biden. This would give it the power to issue subpoenas and pursue various investigatory leads with no danger of being blocked by Garland and Weiss. Distinguished law professor Jonathan Turley has suggested that the House take such action, and he says that the Attorney General’s Weiss appointment gives it no other choice.

Due to an apparent conflict of interest Weiss should recuse himself from the special investigation. But I doubt that he will do so.
