One thing about Trump and his enemies has always puzzled me is the ferocity of the hate directed against the man. I understand the intense dislike. Trump can be ugly and petty, and he does not hesitate to launch vicious barbs against anyone who criticizes him or opposes him. But the hatred and fear of Trump go far beyond that.
Take, for instance, the intelligence officials who perjured themselves in October 2020 in order to deny Trump the election. Formerly I had a very good opinion of some of these individuals, and I thought them to be honest. In signing this letter saying that the Hunter Biden laptop story appeared to be Russian disinformation they were lying. They had not examined the evidence, yet they were willing to put their reputations on the line to support a fabrication.
Either their hatred of Trump warped their good sense, or they honestly feared that the man would be a grave danger to the establishment; and they believed the establisment was vital to good government.
I believe this fear explains their action as well as the actions of men like Comey and Wray. If so, I believe these people should share clear and convincing evidence that Trump was and is a threat to our democracy.
I do not believe such evidence exists. Instead, I believe Trump was a threat to the bloated bureaucracy that strangles good government. This bureaucracy is the proverbial swamp, and these officials are among its denizens.
