Do you only believe in those things that you can see, touch, hear, or feel, or are you open to the possibility of other dimensions — even spiritual dimensions? It is certainly true that we have a very limited perception of the the things that go on around us. For example, let us talk about the subject of time. To us it appears that time passes at a constant rate. But it doesn’t.
More than a century ago a young Albert Einstein became fascinated by the properties of light. Through experiments it was discovered that light speed was a constant. Light emitted from a stationary object travels at the same speed as a light emitted from an object travelling at hundreds or thousands of miles per hour in any direction. Einstein then deduced that a person in a spaceship flying at speeds near the speed of light would sense time passing at the normal rate, but to a person outside that spaceship it would appear that light and time in that spaceship had slowed down. Thus the passage of time varies with one’s speed and location. Experiments proved Einstein’s deductions to be true. Time slows down for a person in motion. In an ordinary earth environment that change in the speed of time is almost imperceptible, but in space travel it could make a difference.
There are countless other things around us that are beyond our range of perception. Ever hear a dog whisle or a radio wave? Ever see inside an atom or molecule?
But God gave us an even more important perceptive ability. As the psalmist wrote, He made us a little lower than the angels, and we can sense the presence of God.
You will find Him if you seek Him with all your heart and with all your soul. (Deut. 4:29)
Seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. (Luke 11:9)
