The is much talk about reparations in certain areas of the country, and some Democrat Party leaders approve the idea in principle. But let’s consider some facts.
In 1860 only one southerner in four was a member of a slave holding family. On a nationwide basis, only one family in twelve had a slave or slaves. We estimate that far fewer than one in five white Americans living today has an ancestor that owned a black slave or slaves.
The vast majority of black Americans are of mixed racial parentage. This means that almost every black living in the United States today has a white slaveholder among his ancestors.
In late 20th century America a number of blacks identified themselves as Muslims to protest against white “Christian” America. In 17th and 18th century Africa Arab Muslim traders predominated in the slave trading trading business, and most of their black prisoners were delivered to them by other blacks. Some black African states built their entire economy on the slave business.
In the late 18th and early 19th centuries it was the Christians who brought and end to the slave trade and birthed the abolition movement.
If you base reparations on culpability, where do you start? If not, it’s just another handout.
